Default Seriously Bad MPG

Hi, i have recently bought a 92 WRX Saloon. Standard engine components, bar, straight through 3" Cat Back. Forge Dump Valve and Chipped ECU so maybe around 260-270BHP.

I am getting about 12 MPG running on V-Power (120 Miles to a tank). My freind has a later STI (98ish) with around 320 BHP and hes getting around 20. I drive the car pretty hard but so does my mate.

Sometimes makes a 'bop' sound when off the throttle like theres unburnt fuel somewhere. Is this overfueling? Did an ECU Check and everything is ok - no faults showing.

If driven hard is this normal? My dad seems to think it is as he had intergrale's back in the day and was getting 8 MPG!!!

Im going to buy a Decat, is this going to worsten the situation?

P.S. i put the chip in and its no different so thats that ruled out.

Any Help Gratefully Recieved

Thanks Dan (sorry about the spelling)

two main possibilities.. dump valve openning on cruise.. lambda sensor failed.

dump valve sounds like a good idea, i have a standard one in the post. Does the fact that ive done an engine check rule out the lambda sensor, as no faults were showing? Thanks for the quick reply Simon. Dan

Check your airfilter too.

FWIW I get 26mpg (285 cheeky miles) from my 50ltr tank 95 Classic.

no as the lambda sensor voltage is 0 to 1volt and all that range is valid.. if it fails they either become slow to react or stick at a voltage or read 0volts.. all of which is pretty much undetectable by the ecu.

Launch control for Petrol Bombs would be a more accurate description.
