Default STI V3 &V4 ENGINE IDETIFICATION

Hi is there any way of identifying STI v3 & v4 engines without having the red inlet manifold on.
Any ideas will be appreciate.

See here:-

So...

- MY97 STi 3 - EJ20KDW6PR
- MY98 STi 4 - EJ20KDW7PR

...where the K is the phase 1.5 MY97/98 v.3/4 and, specifically, the 6 = MY97 v.3, 7 = MY98 v.4, and...

"Engine code is on the bottom left hand corner of the central cam belt cover on classics and on the back of the cylinder heads (facing bulkhead) on the New Age..."

Hi,

Thanks for that info, basically my bottom end has gone on my 1994 UK spec, I have found a 1996 STI V3 engine but it has no inlet manifold so not sure if it is STI not WRX.

Anymore info would be appreciated or if anyone has an engine for sale please let me know asap.

Many thanks

Did you see this bit, mate?:-

"Engine code is on the bottom left hand corner of the central cam belt cover on classics..."

Check it against those posted codes above, and you'll be able to tell...

Is there any possibility to say which heads they are, is there a number on them too?
I have seen that the inlet is "normal" on ST V3-6 heads but the earlier heads V1-2 have "cloverleaf" valveinlets...is this right or do V3/4 heads have these valveinlets too?
