Your car is a 90 degree entry and your friend is correct the VF43 is a front entry turbo and will not be a bolt on fitment. Either you modify the VF43 to a 90 degree entry or change to a front entry inlet by raising the inlet manifold using spacers.

It doesn't fit.
Up to and including my96 the imprezas had SIDE entry turbos. IE air intake was angled 90 deg.
All later years have front entry. Just look at your new turbo and lift your bonnet and look at the front of the turbo there.

Edit: Beaten to it by Banny...

Hi. If you are thinking of selling the vf43, i'll have it off you if the price is right.

Cheers Stuart.

I have seen pics of front entry turbos with a 90 deg silicone-hose connected, but I don't know how well that will fit to existing inlet piping.
And I don't know how well oil and water pipes fit.
I have heard good things about the vf43 but should there not already be a Td05 on your car? In that case there s not so much to gain from fitting a vf43. I'd rather put a fmic, higher rating fuelpump and regulator and 440cc injectors if there isn't already and get a remap.
Mind, to get anything out of any mod like turbo/ic swapping you need to get it remapped. And, if it hasn't been remapped for UK fuel it's high time anyway!
