Year?
Chances are though the best high octane fuel you can get your hands on (which is Vpower btw ) then tesco 99 (97 ron with lots of additives).

The Octane rating seen in the UK (eg 99, 97, 95) is the RON (Research Octane Number) which is the fuel's anti-knock ability at idle. Whereas I understand the more appropriate number to use is the MON (Motor Octane Number), this is the fuel's anti-knock ability under load. Perhaps I am ignorant but the higher the MON, providing the Engine Management has the range to cope, then that is the way to go. How the octane is made up (formualtion or additives) is largely perhaps irrelevant, what matters is the final number(s), providing all other specs are met.

Subjectively, my 07 WRX feels better on Tesco 99, and I have yet to try V-Power, but I was not previously impressed too much with Optimax..

Thanks for that, is the MON rating shown at the pumps do you know, I have only ever noticed the RON numbers, I was using Esso's variant - previous owner was using Shell, as I said I was drawn to Tescos 99 RON, I think mine was Ok on this too......Thanks Si.

The fuel vendors only show the RON number, I guess it is a marketing thing, the higher the number they can show the better. Perhaps you would not be too keen to buy Tesco 87 MON. .
