Default Boost leak or air noise

Hi, Just had a 2nd hand downpipe fitted today to my 93 Type RA and now when on mid-full boost i can hear air escaping from somewhere its like a dump valve kind of noise but happens when accelarating hard but cant hear any leak when driving normal

One of the bolts snapped on the turbo so they have had to remove the turbo, drill the bolt out and re thread it, the downpipe also had a broken censor in it which they have left in because they said it would damage the pipe trying to get it out so best to leave it.

Cheers in advance for any help.

Power is down so it must be boost pressure escaping just tried over taking on the motorway from 50mph to 70mph but as soon has the foot goes down can just hear air gushing out and not much go

a leak on the decat down pipe shouldnt make to much or any difference to the lack of boost. i recon if they have had the turbo off to rethred the damaged stud/bolt it will be a leak from the up pipe pre turbo. did they use new gaskets?

The only new gasket they fitted was for the downpipe where it meets the turbo, should it of had any others replaced? all the pipes seem to be on properly so dont think its them. cheers

if they have had the turbo off it will have broken the seal form turbo to up pipe. idealy the up pipe gasket will need to be replaced. what ever you do dont use exhaust paste (gum gum) to reseal the gasket, because it will kill your turbo. the only other thing it could be is the intercooler pipes, it easy to jiggle two pipes on at once and forget to tighten a jubilie.

I had boost leak turned out to be one of the chargecooler hoses, the jubilee clip wasn't tightened up although it looked ok to the naked eye. Check all hoses for cracks/splits and check all connections are tight.

The symptoms you describe sound like a big boost leak on the compressor 'cold' side of the turbo...

Need to check:-

- Are the hoses/resonators/MAFconnections from airfilter to tubo's compressor intake all tight and good? Is the intake hose split or not pushed onto the compressor collar all the way and fully tightened with a Jubilee clip, etc.?
- Did they reconnect the TMIC's inlet pipe's flange/s properly on underside of the TMIC?

Also, on the exhust side:-

- Is the up-pipe fitted okay i.e. tight and with both metal gaskets in place, etc.

Thanks for the help guys will check everything advised above and if no joy will take it back to the garage that fitted the downpipe and messed with the turbo so they can check they have fitted turbo and pipe properly

Am running the car without the downpipe sensor as the one in it is broken, will this do any damage to my engine without this sensor working?
