Default Newage decat

Hi, I have an 03 blobeye WRX with a racebox backbox fitted. I was wondering if in your opinions it is a worth while mod to replace the 2nd cat and centre exhaust with a straight through section and a k+n panel filter. If yes what potential problems can I get as I have read about gas sensor lights coming on. As you can probably tell I am new to all this but fancy more power. Then a remap which I beleive will need to have a license for? Thanks in advance for replies.

If you plan to remap, then yes decat the centre section, i you want to keep it MOT friendly, get sports cat for the downpipe too. Remaping is ~£600 for an ECUTek license, forget the license bit, it's all included.

You will notice a huge difference if you decat and remap. The remap will sort any warning light (CEL) issues.

I removed the 3rd cat (second after turbo) and resonator section on my bug, no CEL or MOT problems.

Yeah I think I will go this route. Is there much performance gains?

i removed the 3rd cat and noticed a slight gain, then i removed the second (downpipe) cat and noticed a very big gain, the turbo spools a lot quicker but i do get a bit of fuel cut when driving hard, but the cel light has never come on.

mmmmmmmm got me thinking more power again!!! Will start looking for used parts as there is usually them around. Help towards the cost of a remap as funds are tight. Thanks everyone.

I personally wouldn't risk running without a remap...a lot cheaper than an engine rebuild!

I did this with my MY03 PPP Stealth Wagon which will give you an idea of what results you may get.

Hayward & Scott 100 cell high flow down pipe (only 2 BHP loss over decat pipe & MOT friendly)

H&S Up pipe

H&S Centre pipe straight through

I already had the short centre section from the PPP & changed the PPP Backbox to a Blitz NUR Spec S

Followed by a Tek3 re-map with Pat Herborn to get everything flowing nicely.

290bhp up from 252bhp

275lbft up from 263lbft

Boost 1.3bar up from 1.2bar.

I am a happy bunny

My missing sensor CEL light was sorted out by the map.

I am not sure where you live but I am in Essex & booked my map through Xtreme @ Boreham.

There is a guy in Kent, Simon, that has very good feed back on his mapping & several of the ESC have used his services :-

To get the most value for money out of your changes & to keep the engine safe you must get a remap as funds will be even tighter if you blow your engine.
