Default What boost to run

what boost should a scooby normally run at? and ow can i tell what mine is running at? iv just bought mine and i think the guy said he had changed it to 0.8? does that make sense? theres a gadget under the bonnet to adjust it and he said he had turned the boost right down as it was to mental for him before.

advice appreciated.

Depends what version impreza really.
A boost gauge is good why of telling what boost you're running
Mine (93wrx) as standard runs 0.79 and i'm sure that is the lowest boost pressure of all imprezas (may be wrong though).

i'm guessing he has a manual boost controller plumbed in to up the boost.

What MY? The older TD05 cars ran less boost than the later TD04 ones.

on my00 boost should be .8 .9 boost, if you go over 1.21 boost, then it will kick fuel cut off stopin or cutting fuel. 1.5 boost is to high for your TD04 to keep that boost to antthing close to redline, may keep it to 1.5 at 5k if your locky. If you want max boost at redline ubrating your TD04 to VF34-35 would be advisable. Also your 2 port may or prob will not be able to max at 1.55, so upgrating to a 3 port to help keep controll of boost.

putting your foot down while the car is stationary (ie in neutral) will not give you the same boost reading as when the engine is under load (ie the car is driving). You need to check the gauge when you are driving at middle to high revs with your foot right down - get a friend to check it for you if you can't glance at it easily while you are driving - don't want to keep your eyes off the road for too long. The scale on the gauge will be either in bar (so anywhere between 0.5 - 2.0 bar positive boost ) or PSI (=7-29 PSI).

on my 95 wrx import it was boosting at 0.7bar and maybe a touch more somtimes, i was always told this was standard, and that if i wanted to go over 1.0bar it would be bad idea because it would start to damage the engine?

Just to clarify, the figures I put above are more just guidelines for what you will see on various boost gauges - I am NOT suggesting you should run your scooby at up to 2.0 bar boost (unless it has supporting mods and a proper re-map)!!!
