more power
ok , so the bug has once again kicked in. held off for as long as i could convincing myself that there is no point etc. once again, 6 months after getting my first scooby i am craving more power. problem is i have modded cars before and as we all know the sky is the limit and once you start...... well you get the picture. if i was to go for say 450/450 what would be the best route to go (safest and cost effective) and what would i expect to pay? i just want a car thats gonna scare me , many thanks, lee.

To start with you need a good strong bottom end (fully forged would be best) then a good headgasket/bolt setup (ARP/cometic) if your car is post 1995 (solid lifter heads) you then need the correct turbo/injectors/ intercooler and ecu/remap, just a case of getting mapped properly then.

Is yours a STi or WRX?
I would have a chat to someone like Andy Forrest or Mark from Lateral Performance. That said, seeing as you already have a 2.5 bottom end, you could bolt on a MD321T (about £1600), Walbro 255 fuel pump (£80), some 650cc injectors (about £400), high flow panel filter (£70) or induction kit (£150) and have it mapped conservatively. You would almost certainly make over 400, but I doubt you would make 450 without some forged pistons at least and increasing the boost a bit.
Other components that would be sensible to upgrade:
PPP exhaust would start to become a restriction at this level ... full 3" would be better.
TMIC would be near or at it's limits, so decent FMIC.
Colder spark plugs - PFR7B's
Fuel pressure regulator.
Tubular headers 4:1 (from RCMS, Zen, Lateral)
....... and the list goes on and the price goes up!
