Default Air Conditioning retrofit into non Air con car

hello, I am a noob to scoobynet so please excuse any mistakes.

So the topic is air con retrofit into non air con car. Specifically into my classic V4 uk turbo 2000. Obviously its possible as air con was a dealer fit option. The major parts can be bolted under the engine bay I assume but it’s the finer details of the swap I would like to know… specifically

Can I use JDM components (plentiful) or are the uk car ones different in some way?

Do I need a new ‘air-con’ ecu or does my current one have the dormant controls to boost the idle or cut out the compressor under full throttle?

Does the car have the wiring loom & relay holders for air con already or do I have to fit them.

Do I need to change the heater matrix under the dash? (I’m guessing yes)

I would welcome input from anyone with prior knowledge of the conversion. A blue mica car turns into a blast furnace at the faintest glimer of sun, and before someone suggests opening a window remember velour wrx seats double as convenient sweat sponges which is def. not cool!

It is possible, as I have seen various threads on here about doing it. I guess search is your friend in this case and maybe some helpful soul can point you in the right direction. I thought about it ages ago as summer is a nightmare in my UK scoob with no aircon and mine is the same as yours.

It is £850-900 from a company called Kool-air or similar ?

Or you can source your own parts but be prepared for some hard work

yeah I'm guessing its not going to be straight forward, I have converted a car to lpg before so i'm used to fairly taxing projects. As for search it didnt seem to work yesterday just gave me unrelated results? perhaps i'll try it again. I was hoping for closer to the £250 price with some serious e-baying and spanner time.

you are a legend, i must figure out where i am going wrong with search, it doesnt seem to find anyting related at all even on advanced search? I knew someone would have covered tis topic already and it seems like its good news!! I'm gonna do it this summer, someone on e-bay is selling all the major components second hand for £50 which is worth it as this is the cost of 2 pipes from the dealership. Cant thank you enough mate, the threads answer all my questions I think...

Apart from are JDM parts interchangeable with uk ones?

No problem at all, glad I could help

The search is a bit of hit and miss. Use " " around the word you want to highlight

for those of you reading this and thinking of doing the aircon swap yourself i will continue to update as i get more information. Scoobybits have quoted me £250 for a full kit to convert my car using salvaged parts, which i didnt think was too bad as I hope to get all the fiddly bits and bracketry as well as just the main components. I plan to get a new condensor due to their relatively cheap price and the risk of the used one being holed or clogged.

It wasnt a standard feature of uk cars anyway, and what is a v4 uk car? uk cars dont have versions, just classic JDM STi's and it just confuses the issue what type of UK car you have! (94/95/96/97/98/99/00) as you see there are 7 years of uk production, add 2 more years onto that for the classics if your talking wrx's, and STI's went like this (94/96/97/98/99/00) of which there are 6
Apart from that, any breakers should do you a full system from a UK car.

Hi all,

I am a newie and this is my first post.

Does anyone have the instructions / step by step that were mentioned a few years back please.

This seems to be easy for some but a headache for others.

I have a MY 95 impreza Series McRae that is / will be having air con fitted. Any recent help would be usefull.

Thanks.

Richard.
