how do i release cambelt tensioner ?

how do i release cambelt tensioner ?
my 96 scoob turbo classic has spat the crank pulley off and half of the woodrough key is stuck in the toothed crank pulley so i need to remove it to get it out
i have took everything off but the cambelt because i'm not sure how to release the tensioner any help much appreciated, cheers Andy.
