but do insurers cover them? all i said to mine was turbo back exhaust system, they never asked anything else
i understand they wont meet emission laws but if you have mot certificate surely insureres cant complain?

As a pre '95 import my car does not require any cats to pass mot and it is delceared to the insurance company, never heard of them effecting a claim.
Perhaps if its an 'undecleared mod' the insurers might have a case against you

Best way to look at it is this: with a decat, does your car pass the MOT? If it does, as long as its declared to your insurance as a mod, then yes you're OK. If it doesn't pass the MOT with the decat on, you have an MOT failure which is then illegal on the road. If it passes with a cat then you change it for a decat, you have an undeclared mod AND made your car an emissions failure deliberately - so you're uninsured again.
Here's the solution. Get a sports cat if you want to stay legal. The decat itself isn't illegal, how could it be, it's just a bit of pipe! What it does to your cars emissions and possibly performance is usually illegal though unless it's declared and still passes the test.

is this really true because i got a 93 import and i was under the impression that if its over here and its regersted after aug 1992 it needs a cat, and mine has failed emissions before, why would they they put the cats on, is it jap law? do u have any prof of that?

Aug 1992 is for cars built for use in the UK NOT imported.
Your car only had to met Jap emissions and they only used 1 cat instead of 2 for UK cars.

BUT i don't know if this is still the rules as i do take my car to a friendly MOT station and have been shown by the testerwhy he tests it like he does.

Couldn't say really all you can do is phone them and ask.
Like i said my MOT tester actually showed me the whole process of testing, the 93 wrx ISN'T on the database (re the link i've posted) as the impreza wasn't launched till 1994 over here, the only WRX that is is the newage hence why he tests it as he does BUT i don't know why 1995 is a cutoff point (i.e. post late 95 imports have a different limits).
I would suggest that if your car did meet the results in the link but failed they tested it to UK impreza standards which are different.
