You can get a 3 bar map sensor quite easily... contact MartynJ from engine Tuner... He will be able to send one to you... 01752 345880

Yup indeed they do. Have a Motec 4 bar map sensor on mine, and previously was using the Apexi map sensor.

If your car is 97- you wont need one the stock map sensor will be fine. Ive still have the stock sensor fitted with my simtek.

Depends on how much boost you want to run

Unless I'm mistaken then:-

MY93-96 MAP = 2.2bar absolute so can run a max 1.15bar relative (before boost cut)
MY97/98 MAP = 2.4bar to run 1.35bar (or it could be 2.5 to run 1.45 - can't remember lol)
MY99/00 MAP = 2.7bar to run 1.65bar

Im running 1.5bar on a stock MY97 sensor. My understanding was it could read upto 1.7bar.

Hmmmn. I thought the boost cut was at 1.5bar max on the MY97/98 OEM MAP sensor.

Unless your mapper has cunningly got round it somehow by employing a devious mapping trick(?)

The MAP sensor is a little black plastic rectangular thing - with 2 diagonally-opposed corners 'cut off' lol - making it a sort of irregular hexagon shape. It's attached to the side of the BCS assembly, with a vac hose going to it.

I think the OEM ECU measures the air density - i.e. air going into the engine - via the MAF (may also use the MAP too - but definitely needs the MAF).

But it uses the MAP to measure boost pressure though, so knows when overboost is happening, and cuts it when the MAP's max boost pressure rating is breached..
