Default 95 import tuning help

i have a 95 wagon with a filter and exhaust and wondered if the ecu could be tweeked any way to get a bit more power and slightlly better fuel consumption,as far as i no it is standard ecu, also ive noticed sometimes my car ticks over 800 rpm and sometimes as low as 200 rpm any one no what cuases this and how to rectify it,the revs do not pulsate up and down on tick over its just that sometimes u stop its at 800 rpm and another time its at 200 rpm.

Regarding the revs, do you have a VTA (a pssshhh) dump valve fitted?

ECU - you'll have to get an ESL board fitted into your existing ECU then get that mapped, have a look at options on www.jollygreenmonster.co.uk

Never had any issues with tick-over but have read many posts about it with many different causes/solutions ie plugs/coil-packs/mafs ect, best option is to search this site and read

As for remap, if your budget doesn't stretch to £500+ then this is another option for you, I've had one fitted for over a year with zero problems

i have a 95 sti and wanted to get a remap after looking into the esl live board and working out the cost , i decided to spend a little more and picked up a Apexi power fc and commander for £400 awesome bit of kit.

re: idle maybe give your maf a clean, could be idle control valve!!

one of the best thing about the apexi is the ability to monitor everything like, boost, idle, injector duty, knock ,air flow, etc.

if you can stretch that bit further i would recommend it!

No gasketts needaed locate you air filter just after the air filter is the maf, you need to unplugg
The sensor connector then undo both jubile clips. Then remove the maf, what I did is rinsed out some baby wipes then soaked them
In nail varnish remover and wiped the inside! The actual sensor you need to be very careful with I used a couple of cotton
Buds and soaked them in nail varnish and slowly cleand the actual sensor be very carefull not to brake the little wire in the middle!
Its not a hard job to do should take 20 mins or so, btw sorry about spelling and grammar using my phone! (Blackberry bold)

Brake/clutch cleaner is the best option for cleaning

Just use the power from the can and let it evaporate/dry off
