Default Tickover problem

once my standard 04 wrx has warmed up the tickover drops right down as if it is going to stall but doesnt. Any ideas,where do i start looking.

Hi dave. It could be your MAF sensor, take it out and have a look. Or it could be a breather hose that has come off !! check these first as there simple to do.

this will sound rediculous to most on here but where is the MAF sensor?

It's sited between the air filter box and turbo intake pipe (it measures air density going into the engine).

I'm not sure what it looks like on New Ages but it will have an electrical connector to it.

Not had this happen to me on these motors, but my misses had the same problem with her puma last month. Ended up being a little electrical motor that controls the idle speed. Not sure on the techinical name for it, but cost about £90 fitted to get it sorted. Did the trick tho.

Brake & clutch cleaner is widely used to clean the pre-MY99/00 wire MAFs.
