The insulation attached to the underside of the bonnet of my MY93 WRX is getting tired and is starting to fall apart. I've superglued it back together a couple of times, but I'm wondering if I'm just best to get rid.

Are there any downsides to removing this? I assume it is just there to deaden the sound of the engine, rather than keep it warm?!

 

I had the same problem with my 94, twas hanging off here and there. just removed it. I havent noticed any difference to the sound, no louder.

It wont damage or cause any concern by removing the insulation. It's purely for reducing sound.

 

removed mine be cause it was tried also,bugger cleaning it up though

.Once i had removed it the bonnet was black so had to clean up and polish.Here you can see its removed and im half way though the cleaning task,
