Aye, shortens the throw. Different models have different degrees of reduction. The more you reduce it the less leverage you have, so the shift takes more force. It can weight up the shift nicely, I'm happy with mine, but I guess if you go for too much reduction then the force required gets too great, all a matter of taste really. Might be worth getting an adjustable one if possible so you can try different settings to see what suits you. The other possible problem is if you shorten the throw too much then I guess you could out pace the clutch action, have read other posts on here about people screwing their gearbox
