My Impreza seems so suffer really badly from heat soak, if you do alot of stopping and starting rather than doing a long run. I made up a heat shield out of some stuff i had lying around but doesnt seem to have made a difference. Is the bit ive circled a cold air feed? Im thinking it not as if it was surely i wouldnt be having the problem, but im not sure what else it could be.

Also i thought my impreza was just a WRX but when i got insurance it comes back as a WRX STI? So is it an STI or is that a mistake?

That is the resonator for the original airbox but as you can see where your IK is the air is coming in behind it so the IK really should be moved imo.

Do You Know The Exact Model Of Impreza You Have

may help you identify your car.

So my filter is sitting to far forward, If i postion it like yours does that mean it will catch the air from the 'scoop' then?

Also what is a resonator?

Well my IK is basically sitting in the same position as the original airbox so will get the airflow it's meant to.
Not sure what you mean by scoop (have you replaced the vent on the bonnet with a scoop?)

A resonator is to keep the noise to a certain level (you get them on exhausts a s well)

I just meant the std scoop above the intercooler.

Ah no that only feeds the intercooler and depending on what year your car is depends on how good the tmic is your best bet is to heat wrap parts of the engine to keep the heat away from the tmic which is where the heatsoak is more of a problem than the IK

So its the top mount intercooler thats probably causing more of a prob then. Mines a 96' import wagon and the intercooler does look quite small

You could do this little cheap mod and also remove the rubber strip attached to the bonnet that sits just above the headlight. It lets in some cold air when your driving, every little bit helps. You can also run a hose/pipe from your front bumper and feed it up to your air filter.

Looks like i need to get some heatwrap then.

I checked the link about what type of impreza i have.

On my vin plate i have

GF8C58D - So Impreza,Wagon,2.0L Turbo,MY95&96,5 Door,WRX,Manual.

So that sounds right.

Then i checked the table and my code matches a WRX STi Version 2 and a WRX STi Version 2 555, depends which option code i have which i dont know where to find? My car has 555 decals so maybe its the special edition? or maybe just coiencedence?

So my question is it a WRX or a WRX STI version 2 , and if its a WRX STI where do i find the option code to see if its a 555 edition?

Option code is on the VIN plate just after the applied model code.

I don't believe the 555 had decals on it but it may have had a plaque on the rear and maybe a plaque in the car near the gearstick but i'm not sure sorry.
