Default Newly Imported, what to do first??

Hello, I am brand new to this forum and brand new to Subaru. Have been involved in plenty of forums previously with Vauxhall, Mazda and Honda.
I have just put a deposit on a 97 Type R which I will be picking up next Monday. I will be taking my car into 'Falkland Performance' as I have heard good things.
My plan is to keep the car standard and basically prolong the engine and components(until I end up catching the tuning bug). What should I get done/checked/looked at?
The car has covered 73,000 miles.
Any help would be appreciated

Come on guys, any advice on how to keep the car running smoothly? From what I have seen I should run the car on Optimax or Tesco super, apart from that, I don't really know!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Excellent, cheers. So underseal, cambelt and think about a remap! Is it not okay to just run the car on optimax? Guessing a remap won't be cheap! How much should I expect to pay?

Why will he be shafted on insurance depends how old he is,NCB etc?
imo no need to spend money remapping it until you start modding it V power and Tescos 99 RON should be fine,if in doubt get it rolling roaded.

Have the car fully serviced, thats all the belts, fluids etc, will set you back 5-600 quid but its then 2 years of cheap motoring as the 6 monthly's are only oil changes and so is the next 1 year service (though you may require a change of gearbox oil which isnt exactly expensive)
The car will require a rear fog light fitted, need to pass an MOT/SVA test for roadworthiness, depending on the tyres that are on there (some are not legal in europe) you may have to change them (budget for it just in case ) your new car will need to be run on the highest octane fuel available (shell v power or tesco 99 only in reality) and you may need to replace some minor parts like brake discs if worn out.

The car has been imported by a dealer and comes with a years MOT so I guess that the fog light etc is taken care off.
**PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF I AM ILL INFORMED**
£390 for insurance: Check(not too bad for a 24 year old)!!
I will explain to the garage about the import and get them to do a full service and probably a rolling road check for laughs.
Tyres has popped up in conversation! how will I know if they are legal(apart from tread wear) and I assumed tyres - tarmac - same wherever!!

I'll check the sidewall. Thanks a lot for the help so far guys.
Hopefully won't be long until I am bumping into some of you at events. Cheers
