Default will a narrow band air fuel ratio gauge give me false readings???

hi there im really nervous about putting my foot down in my freshly mapped uk 2000 its running 330bhp 301fbt@1.5bar i know i should trust the mapper i just cant help thinking its gunna go bang. so i figure if i fit a air/fuel gauge at least i can see whats goin on in my engine and back off if things look like there not right. ie running lean. ive got a narrow band gauge but i just need to know if this will give me correct readings the last thing i wanna do is be under the impression everything is fine and end up with a hole in my piston.

Then you should fit a wideband

As I understand it, a narrowband will not display an accurate lambda reading - essentially it will just tell the ECU if your car is running lean or rich compared to stoichiometric mixture (i.e. all fuel burnt and all oxygen used), so as said above, you will need a wideband sensor + controller.

I personally use a self build kit called JAW in my project car (New Page 1) - seems to work OK, but it's a lot fiddlier than e.g. an LC-1.

The narrowband is fairly accurate to about low 11's and high 15's, before and after that, forget about it. Get a LC-1 and gauge, you won't go wrong.

As has been said, you don't really need wideband sensor and gauge if you have only had a remap. You would need to know what to be looking for anyway, as AFR's swing all over the place as you come on and off throttle. A knock sensing device like the KS3 properly setup will be much more useful in making sure you have no det and give you some peace of mind.

its not that i might be wrong with this but hear me out--- when they mapped the car it was a nice warm day and the car was running 1.4bar on full chat and everything felt great however when the the outside temp dropped at night the boost climbed to 1.5bar thats when it started to misfire ever so slightly. since then when ever ive been out in the car the temp outside has been warm so only running 1.4bar with no misfire but as soon as i go out at night it come back so does this mean they have set up the car to run fine on the boost it made on the day of the map and when im out in it on cold dense days (nights) its making more boost and the ecu dont know whats goin off???????? its my first subaru so dont shoot me down if im way off
