Default switching outside temp to oil temp?

Is there a way of moving/replacing the sensor that connects to the display in the dials for outside temp below the petrol level?
I thought if possible it would be nice. I don't really need to know the outside temperature, but would love to know the oil temperature for cheap.

Is it possible?

I'd be surprised, oil temps are far higher than air temps

i would imagen so, you'll need a sanwich plate and a oil temp sender. dont know exactly how the subaru system works, but i'd imagen it has a ambiant air temp sensor, so simply cut that off and take the two wires down to the oil temp sender. not sure if the scale would be the same tho

You could get a number of some sort fairly easy, the difficult bit is getting a number you can use.

The outside air temperature sensor is a standard-ish negative coefficient thermistor. You could replace it with an NTC oil temp sensor, but without the ability to muck about inside the dashboard logic to reprogram the temperature compensation curve, chances are that the number you'd see on the dash wouldn't be accurate enough to be worth having.

the air temp sensors wont read anywhere as high as what your oil is gonna be reading, just by a proper oil temp sensor!!
