Default 2.2 good or bad

Ive heard so many rumours about 2.2's so i just want to settle it! im looking at buying a kit off ebay and do a build over xmas.
so are they as reliable as 2.0 or 2.5?
Do they need re-building all the time?
Are they still as revvy as the 2.0?
Ive heard good and bad things so would be good to clear it up!

2.2 is all good Chris, have yet to hear a bad word about a EJ22T block. Quite revvy and from what i know don't need rebuilding all the time but then again if you had 10K invested in an engine would you not want to rebuild it after every 10k miles LOL i know i would (this is dependent on how you drive the car)

WHen you say 2.2 i'm assuming you will be using a 2.2 Subaru block? Known as the
EJ22T. There's quite a few people who have had 2.0's bored out to a 2.2 but then this means re-lining the 2.0 engine.

All the engines are pretty good to be honest, just depends on how much power you want to run really and just how much of a budget you have. I suppose if you was to amend your original post and tell people your power goals and how much funds then they may be able to help you. It's quite obvious that you will be building the engine yourself.

Good Luck

Or are you looking at the many 2.2 stroker kits available.

I wouldn't bother if it's one of these. I'd spend your money elsewhere such as on an engine tuner 2.1 or go the whole hog and get a fully built closed deck 2.5 from Chy @ Pennine Subaru.

If on the other hand you have managed to find a EJ22T block then get yourself a 2.5 crank and some stroker rods and pistons from Lateral and you'll have yourself the best block available.

If someone is after the shorter rods + bearings and crankshaft (79mm) I still have the parts at home as well as the headgaskets made by Cometic 1.6mm thick or thin!
I went the other route and destroked my new assembled block to get lower compression and boost the hell out of it and it seems to take 1.6bar at 26° IGN without and hassle!
