Every engine I've put back togeter smokes for about 10 minutes until hot while oil burns of the manifolds and damp/water/oil off the radiator once thats got hot.

Having said that it doesn't mean it's not broken.

Lewis just keep the engine started and see if it goes away after 10 or 15 minutes.

It's not leaking oil from the oil feed banjo on the top of the turbo and burning off on the exhaust side of the turbo

Did you change all the rocker cover gaskets as the driver side is always prone to failure.

If your old engine shat its self big time - its quite possible that you have oil residue in the inlet manifold, intercooler, exhaust, turbo etc etc - and will take a long time to burn off.
Failing that - it could be anything internal or external to the engine causing it.
