Default Engine problems

Hi

I just need to clear a few things up with my engine. I had an accident which resulted in the right and side (drivers) cam pulleys being damaged. These were replaced and they span freely as did all the other pulleys. A new timing belt kit was also put on.

When trying to start it the engine is cranking over but not starting just a slow bom bom bom. It was getting both fuel and air, all fuses earths checked, and full battery. It's been compression tested and come back as no compression. They reckon it could be bent valves but the EJ20 is a non interfering engine is it not? Is it possible for the valves to hit each other? and if they did would the engine be able to turn over? Read a few similar situations on here and the replies to them is the timing may be the issue?

Only asking as I'm sick of throwing money at it now and loosing patience with it all.

If it is worse case scenario, are the phase two heads (1999) are those valves specific or can you use earlier one?

Hmm when you say no compression you mean all the pots have no compression or just 1 or 2 of them?

It's more than likely the valves as the valves can make contact in between them, so basically if inlet is stuck open the exhaust can hit the inlet upon opening. So yes it will more than likely be the valves that are damaged and when i say damaged it's usually a few Millimetres of bend which causes them not to seat properly.

I would discuss compatability of valves with a valve supplier.

Good Luck

Pull the cam cover off and check the valve clearences, that will show straight away if the valves are bent, the other way is to close both cams and blow some air into the cylinder, you will hear it escaping from the exhaust or back up through the inlet. Which side is it, I have an odd 99 head here.

But regardless it will have to come out to be stripped and repaired.

Yeah was the valves all 16, fortunately no damage to pistons so must of been valve to valve contact.

Heads are off will be getting taken to Head specialist tommorow for them to inspect, and price up the damage.

Well i suppose its good new in a way phil, certainly better than a damaged bottom end.

If and when you get the chance do get some pictures of the damage uploaded onto here as i don't think theres a single thread which covers just how bad damage like this can be.

Your help and information back into this forum would be much appreciated by all.
