Default De-Limiting

My Type R accelerates at a scary pace but runs out at about 120. How much is it to get the car de-restricted? With the close gearing I have been told it is still good for 146mph once sorted. Anybody any advice?

You need some kind of remap but think i'm right in sayin you can do normal remap (i.e ecutec) on pre'98-'99 ecu's. You mite be able to av a chip tho or do simtec remap if you got lots a $$$$

Either get an aftermarket ECU e.g cheap 2nd hand Power FC and get a remap... or buy e delimter form eBay. I think v.3/4 cars have an electronic limiter (rather than the MY93-96's mechanical one). The electronic ones are £20 on eBay.

That said, you don't really wanna be venturing up to top speed and holding it there for any length of time -- it can be an engine killer when running a TMIC.

Your top speed may not be quite that high anyway, as the v.3-6 Type R (and RA) have very low gears and FD (hence your comment on rapid acceleration)...

EcuTek for MY99/00 v.5/6 ECUs only.

OP has a MY98 v.4... so would have to get an aftermarket ECU, unfortunately.

joz8968, sorry for my ignorance but TMIC?
I have been told it is an electronic limiter but am a little reluctant to plug something less than £20 into my car - just paranoia, not snobbery. Trying to leave my car standard however I reckon I may hit the limiter on the quarter miler or even round the track(especially Thruxton)!!

Top Mount InterCooler . They're not in an ideal place: above the hot engine and out of the natural air stream at the front of the car. This can generate really high Air Charge Temps (ACT) when accelerating upto - and holding - high top speeds under constant positive boost. This can lead to serious engine killing detonation.

LOL, don't be put off by the £20! It's just a little electronic black box that gets wired to the ECU to tell it to 'remove' its top speed limiter, that's all.
