Boost gauge, have i done it right???!
Evening all!! Just fitted a boost gauge that scoobyworld sell as a package. (Manufacturer=autometer)
Im new to the world of scoobys so bear with me if im being thick!!
I have fitted the gauge with a single pillar pod. fitting the nylon tube through the bulk head and to the wastegate vacuum hose (the hose between the wastegate actuator and the boost control valve i think!)
Ok this is where i think i might be acting dumb...... the gauge works (reads figures) but im not sure on what im seeing!!
The gauge reads about 7-8psi on boost (standard tuning) but when i change gear and the dump valve activates (forge VTA type) the needle jumps to 10 psi then rapidly returns to the 7-8 figure from before.
Is this normal or should i be seeing the gauge go into the vacuum section??!!! maybe i'm on the wrong hose and im not getting the right vacuum or something? Any help, piccys, guides, slaps in the chops so i see the light would be just lovely!

Depending on what model you have, the accepted take off point is the tube from the inlet manifold to the dump valve. Cut the tube and re-join with a 3-way connector with the boost gauge tube on the 3rd connector.

Yep. As above - best not to interrupt the vac line to the w/g & bcs. Rejoin that connection with a fresh bit of continous vac hose.
Instead go directly from a spare manifold nipple (if available). If not available then cut the vac hose to the dump valve in half, join back together with the T-piece, then run another vac hose from the T-piece, through bulkhead, to gauge.

Mine's T-d into the fuel pressure regulator take-off on the inlet manifold.
Defi sensors for fuel and boost, so makes sense to me !
