fuel
Hey im new just bought my first a 04 sti uk about 3 days ago and just spoken to the previous owner (he had it from new) about fuel and he allways use the normal unleded not a v power since the car was new he said caple of time he use vpower.
Im starting to woried a bit, the car is running perfect at the moment but i just need a bit advice what to do next?
As soon as the tank is empty i will put in v power or keep runing on normal unleded as it was?
Thanks guys.....

Any modern-ish car that can adjust timing and/or boost depending on knock will take advantage of a quality Super Unleaded fuel (my recommendation would be V-Power). In such a car, you will maximise performance, and/or (depending on how heavy your right foot is) increase fuel efficiency/mpg. This is not speculation, it is fact.
Even my old 1998 Saab 900 Turbo (which could adjust boost for knock, but not timing) would return an extra 6% or so on Optimax which balanced out the extra cost of the stuff and meant I had more boost when I wanted it.
I have only ever put V-Power in my scooby, except when I couldn't get any. Most UK spec cars will run fine on normal unleaded, and JDM will to so long as you don't thrash them, but they will like V-Power even more

The minimum fuel requirement for a new age UK/Euro STI is super unleaded (97 ron).
Running on NUL isnt advised, running on NUL and ragging it REALLY isnt advised as it will det, it wont retard that far, it will cause issues and it can lead to engine damage (proven time and again).
JDM cars need their minimum requirement fuel, ie super unleaded, I for one would not run a classic JDM (STI or otherwise, especially my V5 type R) on unleaded unless I wanted a BIG bill for the engine and to cap it off, my old Spec C use to retard using V power and octane booster, so over that 100 ron rating, just imagine what it would do on NUL
Super/V power/Tesco's 99 only.

You wont know if there is any damage unless you open the engine up, if the previous owner drove like miss daisy then the chances are you wont have any damage, if they ragged it all the time then the chances are there is some damage

Tony,
You scaremongering git!!!
I doubt very much if running a standard Newage STi (pre 2.5) on NUL will cause any engine issues on its own. Even Subaru state they can be run on NUL, but with decreased performance.
True.... I would run SUL, but maybe good to put everything in to context.
maxi28,
Start putting in SUL from now on.
