Both turbos are reasonably quick-spooling 320-340bhp at the flywheel jobs. Possibly 350+ if lucky.
The 35 is a conventional thrust bearing; the 34 a roller bearing.
The 35 is supposed to spool a little eariler than the 34... And the 34 allegedly has a bit better top end.
As for which is newest - don't know. But I'm gonna guess it's the 34 ... But by how many weeks/months/years, haven't the foggiest.

Thanks joz for that info, defo fink the 35 might be newer lol, but basically there about the same right?? the info i got direct from subaru is that the VF35 is used in the 04 WR1 and therefore was the latest built (out of the two). Also i belive the 35 is slightly bigger??
Thanks to you two addison, good piece of info, using my car on road, maybe do the odd quarter mile but not racing. Just want to feel that pull you know!!

Description:
The IHI VF-34 Turbo is found on the limited production Subaru v7 WRX STI-RA (GDB). This turbo is differentiated from the VF30 through it's more advanced bearing design. The bearing design allows for much quicker turbo spool-up (depending on tuning, 300-500+ RPMs over the VF30), while retaining the power capabilities of the VF30. The VF34 is capable of 350+ HP (~300+whp) This turbo is a direct bolt-on for all GC8, GDA, GDB EJ20 turbo engines. This is an excellent replacement turbo for those looking for substantial power gains while maintaining streetability

Addison, does that mean ive done the right thing then mate, i just bought a VF35 brand new to go on my 2004 WRX! i've already replaced the down-pipe and up pipe (inc de-cat) middle and rear brand new, walbro fuel pump brand new, flat panel filter, just bought 565cc pink injectors and as i said the VF35!! Do you think that was the right choice?? Hoping to get around the 330bhp mark (Love to get more but...)

so what my mapper says is incorrect??????????,as stated, they are like for like, almost identical.both producing roughly the same power figures! but if u think the vf34 is better then fair enough thats your opinion, the vf34 is more expensive because of the roller bearing design, and this is why alot more people opt for the 35 as its a good turbo at a good price.i personally have read up alot before i chose which one to go for.if i thought there was alot of difference between the 2 then i would have saved up more pennies for the 34.i went for the 35 with respect to what i was told by my mapper who is very experienced with mapping cars with these turbos.
