Question No boost pressure

Hi guys,

I've tried finding old threads where people have had similar symptons but had no luck with my problem.

My cars a 2.0 WRX with standard TD04 but other supporting mods have been made like K&N typhoon, sti tmic, injectors. I only have a 2 port boost solenoid.

I ws driving the car yesterday and all was well but then i heard a whiny air sucking noise. then when i press the gas pedal i'm getting no boost, i've got defi gauges in and the boost gauge only gets to 0 (zero) when i get to the 2k ish rev when the turbo should be kicking in.
There is a mechanical rustling noise too from the engine bay area plus the whining noise gets louder as i'm trying to give it more gas.

I've had a look under the bonnet and there are no obvious pipes loose, split etc just the whining noise on pulling the accelerator cable.

Any advice would be great, i'm hopefully having a TD05 16g fittedonthe 20th this month so hope to have the car better by then.

The most likely culprit for this sort of problem is the pipework between the turbo outlet and throttle body - so the y-pipe feeding the I/C and the connector to the TB.

What sort of pipe have you got between the turbo outlet and the intercooler, the original moulded plastic or the proper STi one (or a silicone replacement)?

If it's the plastic item then it's almost certainly split. If it's the STi metal/silicone or another aftermarket type, take the intercooler off and make sure all the hose clips are still firm. If they are, let us know and we'll go from there.

ok mate,cheers.... i'll get the tmic off to have a look. Its the STI pipe on there i believe.

What you've said definetly make sense with the symptoms so far.

I got the TMIC and turbo heat shield off....there doesn't appear to be any issues with the pipe work. I took the car out for a drive and when sat at lights i noticed abit of blue smoke from the exhaust. Not good right?

I'm getting the feeling the turbo has blown....

I've added these pics of the engine bay open and back of the intercooler. There is abit of oil residue on one side of the tmic pipes.

Am i being blind here, or is there a crack around the Y pipe, this would also explain the oil down the pipe too

If it is a crack, that woudl expalin your boost problem, as the air will be coming out of there

Sorry, just blew the picture up and noticed its only dirt...

But there does seem an excessive ammount of oil coming off the bottom of the left hand y pipe... are the bolts all tightened up, and a seal in there?

Just checked the pipe, seals all intact and nuts were tight.

Again there is oil residue in the Y pipe, i've cleaned out as much as i can with tissue etc.

Just had some advise from Neil at Slowboys and it could be the oil seals on the turbo that might be leaking, I'll know for def next week when it goes in for some work and the TD05, thanks again to those who helped...
