Hi guys,
Never noticed it before, but I was out for a drive at night the other day and I noticed that none of my dash buttons lit up. I can rememeber if they ever have.
I'm talking about the fog light symbol, heated screen, hazard buttons.
I spoke to a couple of mates, one said they should and that not lighting up is an MOT failure and the other said Classic don't and are MOT exempt if not fitted as standard.
Anyone know for sure?
I can't find a fuse for them so why they don't light up I've no idea.

There are two bulbs inside most switches on my MY99 classic. One comes on with the side lights and dash illumination and the other when the switch is activated.
I've had to replace a couple and it involves removing the switch and carefully sliding out the internals. The bulbs are capless, the wire legs being fed through a plastic block before reinserting. I got replacement bulbs from Maplin and they were only pence each.
It's relatively easy to do, in fact I'm sure there is a thread in the lighting section which lays it out step by step.
I'm also pretty sure dashboard switch illumination is not a criteria for the MOT.

All the buttons on my MY97 car light up with the lights and further illumination to show they're doing something, well certainly the front and rear fogs do that. The headlight washers just illuminate. Curiously, the heater rear screen buttondoesn't illuminate but the orange warning light does appear on the dash when it's switched on.
As mentioned, switch illumination isn't considered valid criteria come MOT time.
