Version 5 type R - WEIRD GEARBOX/DCCD??
Ok guys.... i'm stumped!
A mate of mine picked up a cheap version 5 type R (MY99) - got it cheap because engine & gearbox had been messed around with and changed. He just wants the shell for rallying anyway so he doesnt really care.
HOWEVER i am curious about something i found. We were just giving the car a once over to see what exactly had been changed. The gearbox has the following code: TY752VB2DA which is for a MY93 JDM legacy GT/RS turbo!!
(the version 5/6 type R should have a TY754VB1CA). However, the weird thing is that this Legacy gearbox is a non DCCD gearbox and yet the DCCD in the car works just fine!!
The display lights run up and down on the dash as you turn the DCCD thumb wheel up or down and you can also feel the diff locking/unlocking while driving. All the clunks & judders associated with DCCD are present??
Can someone explain to me how this is possible??
Could it be that the car still has the original center diff and control unit??
Is it possible to pair a DCCD center diff & control unit with a non DCCD gearbox? I.E. is it possible to replace the viscous centre diff with a DCCD & controller unit?
Also, the original rear diff in the version 5 (or any DCCD car for that matter) is the R180. The Legacy box comes with the R160 rear diff does it not? So does this mean that DCCD can run with R160 diff as well??
Please send in as many views,
Thanks,
Imran
