Default Can someone explain my dyno results + other info needed

Hey all,

Please could you explain these dyno results, do they look okay?

I have only recently purchsed my WRX 03 and they guy said it had been re-mapped and looking at the results im quite sure it has?

But....

I talked to the guy who i brought it off and he said he took it to his friend who adjusted the boost ... and the engine management light came on then he adjusted it back ??!? Its my understanding that the ECU is the Ecutek type and must be unlocked to be able to adjust?

So im a bit confused here .... if it has been mapped then the ECU must have been unlocked, right? Am asking this as i would like to fit a new downpipe but i will need it mapped after and dont want to pay the full amount for unlocking (if it is unlocked already) etc... is there a way to find this info out?

Cheers!

You could have a manual boost controller?

Also, find out where it was originally mapped (maybe scooby clinic)? Then it will cost a lot less for a tweak of you map. Maybe around £150 depending where you go.

The torque curve is fairly flat but that is a good thing means it will hold torque through the mid range ,this is mostly cause it holds boost well till the end,the fueling is too rich though idealy should be round about 11.3 so i would get that sorted it wont kill your engine but u will be losing power and drinking fuel

Im sure it hasnt got a Manual boost controller, so would you say its been mapped ... if so this would mean the ECU has been unlocked

**sorry for all the questions im quite new to all this this

It is running rich, so would certainly benefit by getting it mapped.

An ECUTEK dealer will be able to tell you if it has a license on it already, by hooking up their laptop.

Ooops... just seen the post above.

No, Clinic don't keep records mate.

Easiest would probably be to phone the Seller who you bought it off and ask him.

Yeh thats the thing, i aint got much info from him, all he knows is that JRS motorsport tried to adjust the boost, the engine management light came on so they adjusted it back <-- this sound true?

Or does anyone know of an Ecuteck dealer close to Telford / Wolverhampton that i could get to check?

Edit - Just tried to phone JRS motorsport and they have closed down

Oh & with the AFR being waaaay out im still getting good mpg ... i topped it up the other week and have just gone past 300miles, off a tank ... thats with mixed driving with air con on alot!!

anyone with a cable and laptop can tell if it has been ecuteked, as even if they are open ecu tuners, they will know if your ecu has an ecutek license on it. They won't be able to read it if it has a license on it.

Surely it wouldn't make that bhp without some sort of mapping ?

I did a fair bit to my car and it made an extra 20 bhp before mapping, and 75 bhp extra after mapping (STI)

IMHO of course.

sorry but 11.3 is very lean, i would bring it down to tens when on boost

Absolutely... 11.3:1 is quite rich really but is generally a good target AFR that strikes a balance between safety and power.

Just an update for everyone:

JGM very kindy popped across to check it had been remapped and........................ it hasnt been but he said it was kicking out good BHP considering it hadnt been

So i could get it remapped and gain a bit of power, adding a downpipe too.

JGM said the turbo only takes realisticly 285bhp and I dont really wonna be swopping it yet (unless my turbo goes in the future)

Hmmm im thinking now would it be worth getting it remapped for the extra 15ish bhp ?

Yes it is worth mapping, its not all about BHP, this is where lots of people think it is, its about drivability and in gear accelleration (ie torque).
You could gain another 20-30lbs of torque there, you wouldnt believe the difference it would make, imagine you making 270lbs at 3500rpm instead of 230ish then holding that further up the rev range (say 500rpm more before dropping off), will make the car feel totally different

You'll gain 50+ lbft, boost will come in sooner and it will make for a far more driveable car. So, yes, get it remapped.
