Can of worms
If its decated then its not fit for the road and will not pass an MOT.

Hate to rain on your parade, but if it still has a center cat it will be fine, I also passed the mot with the decat dp the tester just took it out for a little run to warm it up . (my99 classic)

Not necessarily at all. Gonzo is more likely to be correct in practice than you are.

a) Your trick only works if the centre cat is in good to brilliant nick.
b) If you get stop-checked by VOSA out on the road, they are unlikely to take your car for a buzz before testing it.

not illegal to have a de-catted exhaust aslong as you can prove it passed its emissions test at MOT.

surely the smaller probe you are talking about is the sensor that alerts you if the CAT has got too hot... this is not needed if you de-cat the downpipe though and if connected back up will probably cause the CAT on fire light to come on.

When I decatted mine I left the CAT on fire sensor off and everythings fine.

The lambda sensor on the early WRX's is in the headers not in the downpipe... As I said above the smaller probe in your catted down pipe is just the CAT on fire sensor which is not needed.

Yea I think so, its a while since I had a catted down pipe around... On the new downpipe I guess you might have holes for the lambda sensor as on the later models the lambda sensor was in the downpipe... which is actually a better position for a Lambda. Not sure why you got more than one threaded hole though?

when I changed mine, my new downpipe had a Lambda hole in it too so bought a Lamda bung from Demon Tweeks. I have recently had my engine out and headers off and have decided to move my Lambda from the headers to the downpipe.

On my 93 WRX version 1, I can say that there is no sensors connected to it and any holes are bunged up. The "cat on fire" sensor on the catted down pipe is not used in the decat pipe... I would assume you wouldnt need anything put into your new downpipe as long as yours (like mine) has the Lambda in the headers, which can be found on the drivers side header. Fairly positive on this!

Sorry to the OP for the hi-jack!!

Have you or anyone you actually know, been subject to one of these checks?
There are some folks on here who know of a person who knows someone who has a friend who heard of someone who was stopped etc.........I've seen the VOSA roadchecks, stopping vans / trucks etc.
