Presumably the electric lights still have provision to adjust them manually, no?
Re. the facelift grill: yes it slots straight into the existing bracketry... BUT... you will have to saw away a suitable area for the early car's bonnet latch strikeplate.
Use the OEM 3-bar grille as reference for the shape and position of the area of the new grille that you need to cut away.
When shutting the bonnet, you have to give a firm push for it engage the latch. When opening, lift the bonnet up with one hand as far as it will go, then slide a finger in the gap from just right of centre, so as to move the latch lever to the driver side to disengage. It's quite a narrow opening, so if you have fat hands lol, then you'll need to use a screwdriver or similar...

Do both parts of the latch mechanism just swap straight over then with no problems, even if still using the early bonnet?!

The bonnet catch attached the bonnet is not different throughout the classics, that I can tell. I've got the one of my early bonnet on my facelift bonnet, as the one on the facelift was bent where it's supposed to lock into the catch.
The "hold it shut" bit is different on a facelifted one. I've got an MY00 one fitted to my car, as the early release lever caught on the facelift grille.
If the rain ever stops up here, I'll take a pic to show what part I mean. The release lever is wider on a pre-facelift.
I think that makes sense.

No need for a photo mick, I totally get yer lol.
I'm personally not bothered, as I have the MY99/00 grille on my MY93... but WITH the butchered section
But it's totally fine - you cannot see it when bonnet's shut anyway (untidy bodywork parts don't bother me... so long as they can't be seen when the cars' parked up! ).
