Fixed new maf, doesnt idle normally
1994 WRX Replaced maf and filter.
Hi my maf went, and ive replaced it with the same type green label. Bought a new air filter too its a spoung dome one.
The car will now go over 20mph. So the maf must be working.
But the car is not constantly idle, its like reving then stops reving then stops. But not stop as in cuts out. It always stays over 1,000 rpm. When I put my foot on the gas it doesnt respond like it use too.
It feels like when I put the gas down it might conk out.
Anyone know what this is.

Reset ecu (disconnect the battery fo an hour) or take it to a garage to reset it using a Select Monitor or manually do it Scoobypedia | Trusted knowledge for everything Subaru | Scoobypedia / Scoobypedia under the ECU heading.

My mate said it could have been the air filter, so i changed it back to the normal one.
The old maf would cut out, so the old one is defo broken.
New one idles at 1,000 to 1,500 rpm is that right? Im sure my old one idle at 2,000 rpm.
But it sounds choking the exhaust like popping. And when I press on gas to say 2-2,5 rpm it idles back to 1,000rpm or lower.
Im in liverpool/merseyside area if anyones about.

My green MAF idles at about 1.1V and is max'd at about 4.85V (but mine's been remapped to 282bhp).
Yours should see similar figures though... but if running the std 237bhp, it'll prob max at more like 4.5-4.6V.

MAF is calibrated between 0V and 5V (from no air mass... to max air mass, respectively).

Think my engines 265bhp if that matters its import.
Thanks for your reply and everyones.

No. You don't manually alter its voltage calibration - it is what it is.
Check the voltage by using a multimeter on the MAF plug's sensor wire and run the meter into the car...
It should be c.1.0-1.2V at idle.
Get a mate in passenger seat so he can monitor the voltage at high rpm. I'm certain it should be around the 4.5+V mark.
If the voltage is far too high at idle and/or far too low at high rpm, then the MAF is out of spec.
