Default testing coil pack on a classic

I think my coil pack(s) are giving me jip as most days if I'm driving at speed, say on a dual carriage way, and put my foot down a little/fully it hesitates and stutters and can be a pain when overtaking. It feels electrical, like a misfire. I have bought new plugs, but not put them in yet, and can you test the coil packs easy enough with a standard multi-meter??? What should I be looking for if you can??
