Default Help choosing radiator please

I have been quoted 165 approx for a radiator from prosport for my 96 import wrx.

aftyer going on e-bay they have some that are considerably cheaper and (apparently) oem standard as well.

what i need to know is, is there a difference between a uk and and import radiator as there are 2 different listings, one says will fit impreza, doesnt mention import, but also doesnt say it wont fit

the other does say import, there is approx 20 quid difference but i can see no noticable difference between the 2.

the links are below, so are these the same or not?

SUBARU IMPREZA / LEGACY 2.0 TURBO RADIATOR BRAND NEW on eBay (end time 05-Aug-09 14:47:13 BST)

SUBARU IMPREZA / LEGACY 2.0 TURBO IMPORT CAR RADIATOR on eBay (end time 07-Aug-09 19:45:33 BST)

or can anyone else suggest a supplier?

I'm sure that the OE radiator's on our car's are made by "Calsonic" so I'd also do a search for them. They aren't the same I think and I believe the differences are probably to do with pipe outlet locations although both those pictures appear the same on those links. Could be the supplier's mistake I'd check before buying either just to be sure. Goodluck.

Default thanks

Thanks for that link, do i really need a race rad though, the car is totally standard except for exhaust, i dont track it, it is just a daily driver.

if there is a benefit of having a race rad on an otherwise standard car then obviously i would consider it, otherwise it seems abit of overkill?

any one have one of these fitted?

thanks for that also i will check when get home, i am at work and limited to what i can look at or search for. cant get on www.ebay.co.uk but if i type in my.ebay.co.uk then i can, its the weird website blocker at work!!

been told a standard oem subaru rad is approx £400 quid, surely this can't be right??

£400!!!! are you kidding...that's gotta be wrong.
My mate bought one of those aluminium race radiators but he took it off 1 month after fitting it and went back to standard. I'm sure the RCM "Gobstopper" still runs the standard radiator so if it's good enough for that car I'm sure it will be ok for the rest of us.

I thought OEM rads were about the £115 mark ? £165 fitted sounds about right.

£165 was the quote for the radiator, im sure they (prosport) quoted £220 fitted. and that is for a blueprint radiator, not an official subaru one, i was advised a proper subaru rad was "around the £400 mark" + fitting!!!

if the gobstopper does fine on a standard rad then thats sold it for me, gonna try and speak to the ebay seller and see which one will definitely
fit.

has anyone bought a standard radiator from ebay (not race rad)

if so where from and were you happy with the quality or not?

Thanks in advance

RCM supplied and fitted a Subaru OEM one to my WRX for around £330 (but I think there was other work/items on that bill too).

Don't forget, the OEM version's plastic end tanks take between 10-15 years before they turn brittle!... So just fit it and forget it (that way you'll know it's a known quantity and won't warp, etc... ).

The only real problem I've noticed with the standard radiators is the top and bottom metal plates (painted black) rust like nobody's business. Mine took less than a year before it started showing signs of rust....the bottom's fooked but I'm going to take the top off, rust protect it and re-paint it black as soon as I can.
When I worked in parts about a year ago our cost from the supplier (FPS) was around £55-£65+VAT to us....so add the mark up on(sometimes as much as cost + 70) and that's easily over the £100 mark.
FYI; Blueprint do loads of OE Japanese parts, that's what we bought from FPS and are usually very good.

AFAIK all Classic rads - whether JDM or RoW - are interchangeable.

I think most of the New Ages might fit too (don't quote me on that though)

I have bought the same radiator from your first ebay link, it came next day and was very good quality , and has been on my car for 6 months with no problems, it is as good as the OEM rad , as its alloy and will not rust out, think uk and import classic radiator's are the same, hope this helps

i ordered a rad off e bay on Monday at 2.40pm and it came at 9.30am next day paid 62 quid all in and very happy... my ome one had rusted at the bottom so the bottom fan nuts sheared off 4 of them, but used the bolts that hold top and bottom plates on to replace them and put my ome top rail on new rad so looks original with the stickers etc, fitted straight on the new one and fitted straight in the car no probs..from a place in Newcastle next day delivery if paid for b4 3pm
