I think the snorkel's top entry OD is 58mm (c.2.25")... so should be the same (or similar sized) where it joins to the compressor cover. For the record, most 'proper' front entry intakes of turbos designed for Imprezas are 58mm... or 76mm (3") for high power applications.

About an inch-worth of collar depth shoud be fine for even the widest of clamps... but I'd opt for 38mm-51mm (1.5 - 2") to be sure.

I'd get a professional to angle grind (or even better, plasma cut!) the snorkel off at just beyond the point where it starts to bend - so you're only left with a shallow straight bit still coming off the comp cover.

Then get them to carefully weld on a 1.5 - 2" length of steel tube which has the same ID as the intake hole in the comp cover.

The tubing should have a 5mm wall thickness (at least), I reckon.

All that said though, I think Andy Forrest can supply you with a proper F.E. comp cover for the 16g for not too much coin...

Welding steel to the ally compressor housing - sounds interesting (though totally impossible).

They could of course weld on ally tube instead! Although 2" is far to long the stock turbo the intake sticks out by about 30mm from memory.

I have see some TD05's with the snorkel machined as a direct fit, but its not really long enough.

Oops. Sorry didn't realise comp cover was ally.

Sorry again - I just took a (sort of educated) guess...

...Although my initial suggestion of 1" wasn't far off!
