Searched but couldn't find one of these threads..
Would just like to know everyone's opinion on the above as im struggling to decide on which other Subaru to add to my collection...
This one will be tracked alot as well as a road driver... Will be tuned to around 400bhp. I love them both.. Just cant decide on which one...
Thanks

Well both will need engine rebuilds and gearbox rebuilds for 400bhp as they wont take either, the RA is a spectacular car for track work, but either will be good for running on a daily basis ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
The RA is slightly more practical and comes with the quick rack steering as standard, optional on the type R's.

Well, I'm certain the ratio's and final drives are the same for the R and RA - i.e. read the ultra low DCCD set-up - for any given MY comparison from v.3 on.
The R looks nice with the Retna 2-dr coupe body... but the RA is the competition-oriented one out of the two (RA = Race Altered). It has decent reduced weight by the junking of a lot of non-essential items for competition. I'd go for the RA if you intend to take it on track...

Been running around 400 maybe 380-400 on my V3 STI RA with meths for the better part of a year, the engine "has" let go but the box is still going strong, trackdays involved but no 1/4 mile stuff, some people seem to get away with it while others dont

If you can pony up the dough, I'd get the very last Type R STI Version VI (or V) in Pure White.
The best looking Imprezas IMHO.
That way you can map the OEM ECU via ECUTek... With a v.3/4 you'd have to get Apexi PFC, Simtek or other aftermarket ECU and map it...

Some say the V3 Sti Type RA is the best RA ever made, others will disagree because it didnt have the CDB, Over on TypeRA.co.uk they recon this anyway, but it`s all horses for courses and all the rest, All im saying is i love my one for daily driving and trackdays

Dont know of any V3`s that are available at the moment you could check the usual places pistonheads etc, be carefull what you end up buying though as alot of people try and pass of a normal STi or WRX as a RA , I know Carl Davey is selling his which is a V4 and already modded to about 380 or so if thats any help
