Default 2005 WRX UK - Hydraulic Tappets or adjustable?!

Hi all,

My sister has a UK spec 2.0l turbo WRX 2004/2005 Subaru. She has asked me to get hold of the valve clearances. Out of interest, I thought I better check whether they have hydraulic or adjustable tappets before I go any further ;-).

Can someone confirm if scoobs have adjustable tappets or hydaulics?

Cheers!

RW

They have Selective Buckets ie the shim is part of the bucket and you change the bucket to get the right clearance.

Selective Bucket on the far right.

Valve Clearances are :
Inlets ~ 0.20mm
Exhausts ~ 0.35mm

Now the bad bit - the camshafts have to come out to change the buckets so quite a big job to do.

Thanks guys. My father must think that they need checking and wants to know what clearances to expect.

Thanks for your help and appreciate that it is a big job! Do they often need done on these engines?

Cheers,
