Hi guys, I'm the new owner of a 2005 WRX that has a fully decat stainless steel exhaust. I'm wanting to make it permanently MOT-fit and have been looking at 100 cell sports cat downpipes as a solution.
However on looking under the car the current exhaust appears to be a 3-piece system, which specialists I've spoken to say would be normal on a Classic model but not on a 2005 Newage which would normally have 4 pieces? Also, it seems to be a 3-inch system rather than the standard 2.5-inch.
Does anyone have any knowledge as to whether these facts would make sourcing and fitting a sports cat downpipe difficult / expensive / pointless?
Apologies if these are daft questions but I don't have any previous experience of aftermarket exhausts!

the previous owner proberly got a one piece downpipe like i have on my MY03 but originally i had a 2piece downpipe. shouldnt make any difference in sourcing a sports cat downpipe, just ideally go for one that has a 3 inch flange where it meets the centre section.

Give japspeed a bell they will sort you out with a 100 cell 3 inch down pipe. I bought mine from them a couple of months ago. Comes with all the gaskets needed for fitting as well. If japspeed dont have one in stock for your car check scooby parts. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick reply!
So as long as I get a sports cat downpipe that is the standard 2.5 inch at the engine end and 3 inch at the other, I should be ok then. I was a bit worried that the longer 1-piece centre pipe my car has might cause fitment issues with a new downpipe?

the engine end? you mean where it bolts to the turbo? turbo end you want a bellmouth/bypass design as ive seen some that just have a flat part near the wastegate which will hinder response.

I've been looking at the Japspeed high-flow sports cat; looks like it would fit the bill as it has the features you recommend and replaces both downpipe and cat pipe. Anyone have any experience of this cat?
