My MY93 WRX motor was rebuilt using a 1.6mm thick one.
I'm certain this is the correct thickness for the MY93-96 EJ20G motor. In fact I think it is also correct for the MY97/98 EJ20K one too, as you are able to upgrade to the uprated metal STi v.1-4 gaskets.
Make sure you DO upgrade using the metal STi v.1-4, Cosworth, Cometic or similar...
While you're in there, could also be worthwhile upgrading to OEM 11mm diameter ARP head bolts too. Helps keep a lid on things lol.

Yep your right mate, 1.6mm Metal are the best way to go. OP do not use the composite type gaskets which are rubbish.
ARP bolts i would say would be dependent on power and amount of boost your running, i would say the standard bolts were more than up to the job on stock power and boost and that stock bolts will be ok for quite a bit more too.

I think the uprated bolts should easily withstand around the 450+/450+ area, maybe up to 500-odd before becoming a 'concern'. Not sure on the boost level though.
So OP unless you intend to go "crazy"
, don't bother with the extra expense of the bolts (unless, upon inspection, your OEM ones are worse for wear, of course...)
