STi IV TypeR vs R32 GTR
hi
Some general Q's for you.
How light can you expect to get a TypeR? Its completly stripped with two buckets, multipoint cage, lower half of dash gone, no heating, no AC. It'll get lexan windows, gutted doors etc... I'm willing to take it quite far, but not to the extremes of carbon roof, wings etc. GRP panels maybe.
I know power to weight figures dont really account for lap times, but comparing the two cars in the subject.
Our GTR must be around 1300kg, and an easy 500bhp on the old engine. New engine getting built with fresh turbo's so it'll hopefully be a touch more.
so 500bhp and 1300kg = 384bhp/ton
Impreza will hopefully be about 400bhp on Vpower (forged 2.0, cams, FMIC, GT Headers, AFP 20G). Just need to get an idea of possible weights I need to know how much more power/weight I need to find/lose to try and keep up with the R32.
400bhp & 1200kg = 333bhp/ton
400bhp & 1150kg = 347bhp/ton
400bhp & 1100kg = 363bhp/ton
What power do you think is achievable on the 20G with E85 (up to 50%) mix? 420bhp? 430bhp?
430bhp and 1150kg would give the Impreza a fighting chance on the straights!

True tonne in kg (i.e. not employing the metric '1000kg' tonne) is c.1016kg, so for true bhp/ton:-
500bhp and 1300kg = 391bhp/ton
400bhp & 1200kg = 339bhp/ton
400bhp & 1150kg = 353bhp/ton
400bhp & 1100kg = 369bhp/ton
430bhp and 1150kg = 380bhp/ton
Even better! lol

I would guess at less than 1150kg, possible even less than 1100kg. If you go for glassfibre wings, no ac/heating etc then I expect you can go quite low.
As to the engine - it should be easy to get oner 400bhp. I think that you stand a good chance of beating the R32 (at least power to weight ratio).

From: will be back in another scooby in time....
john are you some kind of rocket scintist that we dont know about? you done this maths thing the other day with the tyre thread
im suprised you not battering him now on long strights like quarter mile etc might be a bit diffrent but on a track you should be hammering him the type r gearbox is brilliant little weapon providing you can change gears quick enough

Got it round the wrong way! It's c.1016kg that's a true tonne, not c.984 (originally unwittingly did the conversion 'inversely'). ****.
(But those ammended bhps/tons are still correct though).

..... her, not him.
I've only attempted to keep up with it on track once. It had the orig engine (RR'd at about 280bhp). That was not going to happen. LOL Video evidence somewhere too ( youtube skyline v Impreza or TrackScotland channel. I cant link to it as its firewalled)
The above thoughts are for the build thats getting done just now.
