imho i would leave well alone, save up and get an esl daughter board or similar. Those chips on ebay are not very good and you may end up with a engine rebuild.

the magical stage 3 chip listed on ebay will no achieve the gains stated, and will 100% be the same as the stage2 chip will then be in turn a copy of a prodrive map with the timing pulled the boost turned up a bit and no fuelling adjustments, if you ask the seller if it will x,y,z they just say, yeah it`ll work great mate!

I've had the PP chip fitted for nearly 2 years now with zero problems, yes plug and play 10/10 from me

The ESL daughter board is available from PP, see here:

i think the polar performance chip is more in my price range, the jolly green monster looks impresive but out of my league at the moment.

Very rare 2nd hand 'ESL Live'-equipped ECU on eBay at the mo (they hardly ever pop up):-

Subaru Impreza wrx/sti ESL daughter board chipped ecu!! on eBay (end time 07-Sep-09 16:53:21 BST)

If you were to offer £300 and win it; flog the supplied 440s on for at least £60; and get the exisitng map tweaked for your motor for around £150, then you will have only spent a net amount of c.£390 or so - a decent saving over buying ESL Live/1st map new...

£££ were the deciding factor for me too, along with not requiring huge power increase, just unleashing the potential of the standard engine

i would need the 440s as the ra is on the standard 380s, ill have to give that a miss at the moment and get saving up. what sort of power gains do you get from the pp chip? i like the idea of the pp it looks a nice touch and fairly easy mod as well as some bigger injectors of corse.

Well, the crappy little TMIC wouldn't allow much more than 280, so 440s not needed - 380s would do it. However, if you were to fit the 440s and then remap, then you might get 290-310(?) oiut of the TM.

But you're right; with a decat and the PP chip, you'll get a possible 280 anyway, and it should be safe enough for the motor. So may as well do that - the most cost-effective bhp/£ 1st stage.

salt and vinegar on mine to and plenty of it to. ive tried a huge (over size) modified new age intercooler and it rubbed on the bulk head, so then i tried a v3 sti type the one with the pipe coming out the ns front and that dont fit because of the idle control valve is in the way. i was toying with the front mount idea but i dont want to cut my inner wing and im led to belive it will be laggy on spool up so im stuck with my tiny weeny slanty. my missus is happy with what ive got tho, she say size doesnt matter it what you do with it

No!

DO go FMIC!!! (seeing as you've already considered it!)... You'll open up a whole new world of possibilities for yourself.

As for the lag issue, it'll be minimal... if at all. But it's worth it regardless, as the dfference between the little v.1/2 TMIC and any FMIC is really night and day!

If you were to get a FM; 550s (or poss. 440s?) ; all the other appropriate mods/remap, you could be happily enjoying a very safe <350bhp! ;-D

Go on, your missus will get off on it... :-D

bugger, i did have a front mount off a car i broke for spares and i sold it all because i didnt want to cut my inner wing. i wanted to keep my car original so i could put it back to standard when i sell it on. to contradict that i tell my mates ill never sell my car ill always keep it, ive got bigger problems than i thought front mount it is then, if im gonna keep it it will be ok to cut holes in it and if the missus will get off on it

Well, unless you've got an extremely clean, std. Type RA and/or it's a 555 Ltd. Edn. - in which case perhaps it would be nice to keep it that way - then don't let the thought of cutting holes in the wing, etc. stop you from getting a FM!

At the end of the day if you do sell it, chances are the prospective buyer will be a fellow enthusiast and he will be more than happy that it has the FMIC, etc, as HE won't have to spend out on doing it for himself, etc.! He can just jump straight into a sorted, safely mapped 300+bhp lightweight Impreza and drive off into the sunset...!

Put it this way, it should attract just as many buyers as it would if it was std i.e. buyers from two differing 'camps' (if you see what I mean). So I wouldn't let 'chopping' it about a bit necessarily put you off...

You'll get over it... The excitement of 300+ will soon take over your emotions and the hacking about will become a dim and distant memory....

The 'one' to get brand new is the new Hybrid GT Spec2 (available from harvey, for £350 I think).

APS though is a pukka make, and if you were to snare this for less than that, then fair enough. What I like about it is the long core, thus hiding the endtanks away behind the bumper.

Better mention though, it's for a MY99/00 as mentioned in the ad, so may leave you with some serious... or not so serious... cutting/repositioning/welding of the pipework. Whereas, the Hybrid GT Spec2 has all but been perfected to fit perfectly, as there's a kit available specifically for the early MY93-96 cars...

hmm the plot thickens, ill have to get one one way or another. i dont like the way they have spray painted it on the box behind it. that wont help cool the core.

ill keep my eye on it then. the silicone kit are suppost to be more adaptable and more forgiving than the hard pipe kits, so im led to belive.

Oh yeah, only jusr realised they're silicone pipes!

Yeah much easier - you can rejig the hoses by just cutting and joining with additional short/angled silicones and ally joiner tubes...

Thats not the ESL live board, but the earlier board that emulates the 27C1028 chip, so is not live re-mappable.
The live board is different and does not use the same PGA devices.
