my99 classic splutters a bit below 3k revs. ANY IDEAS?

Just noticed over the last couple of days that my impreza splutters a little under 3000 revs and is really starting to annoy me. does anyone have any ideas or suggestions.

would be first choice Maf. make sure you JUST buy the maf NOT including housing.

would the maf cause it to splutter only when under laod or would it do it holding the revs up whilst sat still as well?
