WRX REAR WHEEL DRIVE 'N' SLIDE!
HI EVERYBODY....(hi Dr Nick!), i've got an 2004 blobby wrx and am currently modding up to 320-330ish bhp. i used to own a 470bhp 200sx and loved to do drift. i decided i wanted to do it in a car that people wouldn't really expect to see in a full opp lock power slide so i bought a sub! can this be converted PROPERLY to a rwd (not just welding diff's!) has anyone done it? i've heard that you can fit the gearbox from the rx7 fd's but it would still need bell housing drilled!?! i'm not interested in the DCCD route as its not full rwd as i want! also is the sub's rear diff a lsd or would i need to change that as well?any help mucho's appreciatos!

Don't "diss" the welded diff, if you whip out the front planet gears, and weld up/replace the centre diff you could be sorted, the only problem is that the Scooby rear diff is only rated to take 1/2 the power (obviously) so you may kill a few having fun.
You can buy a "centre shaft" to replace the centre diff.

so its a case of stripping the gear box of the centre diff and putting in this shaft in its place? how does this shaft operate? what does it do? i take it that i then just remove the front shafts and block off theremaining holes in the box casing?

What it doesn't do is feed power to the front wheels....
will have to suggest a view on Japanparts.com web-site

awesome thread about welding centre diff but it hasn't answered if the rear diff and driveshafts on my 04 wrx will take the strain longterm or not has anyone been running this setup longterm and can answer this? or can anyone confirm if a 200sx s14 rear diff will just bolt straight on or what kind of modifications are involved in fitting a s14 diff has anyone tried?

cheers for the link DUNKX but 430 quid for the replacement shaft is a bit steep! be better toget a scrap or used box and use the centre diff outta that. i'm deffo up for this now jus need more info on rear diff

I Had 330/300 running through the rear end only on my classic, The balance in corners felt all wrong, The rear used to tramp & vibrate when giving it some pain but you could get the **** end out easily
You can also achieve **** end out easily with 4 wheel drive, Meaty rear Arb, Full polyurethane bush set up, Some real stiff coilovers & a good dose of power
Roundabouts are a whole new pleasure

The larger R 180 diff (standard in JDM Type R's/Ra's) as opposed to the more normal Uk R160 can handle the power easily, as these are handling up to and over 400 bhp through the rear of cars like the Gobstopper and Zen's cars. This diff is actually made by Nissan and is probably what was in the back of your 200
These come in various different guises but you can get plated R180 LSD's ( as I have) and can be set up tightly or whatever to help generate oversteer.
Ring Paul Blamire (the boss) at Zen Performance - not only did he run the Drift cars as mentioned above, but he also supplied my R180 so he knows all the answers.
