Overheating issue - Help please!
Hi,
Bit of background info to help diagnose my problem.
Whilst on the motorway last week, my coolant temperature gauge rose rapidly so I pulled over immediately, just as steam starting coming out. Turned out be a broken thermostat, this was replaced and everything seemed ok.
Then the following day, on the motorway again, the temperature gauge shot ap again! I pulled over and discoverd the problem was a very small leak from the top of radiator. It must have burst from the overheating that happened the prevoius day and subsequently leaked. I checked the level before setting off.
So, I replaced the radiator with a used one (that doesnt leak) and still have some overheating issues. Its fine on short runs, but after a long run, the temperature will rise above normal when stationary. Both fans work fine btw. When this happens I check the bottom hose but its always cold! Suggesting the water is not circulating through the radiator. Radiator blockage?
But the odd thing is that if I go on a long run and take it easy, never exceed 60mph or 3k rpm, its fine! I check the bottom hose and its nice and warm, so water is circulating through the radiator.
Any ideas? Could it be the water pump thats slipping under high load? I was convinced there is a blockage in the radiator, but water is flowing through it fine when I take it easy.
Bit confused. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Neil

Airlock happening on boost, ergo over 3k rpm and at the higher speeds??
Airlock could have been introduced when the stat was replaced... and/or when new/extra coolant was reinstated afterwards??
