Default Fitting Walbro Pump to Classic- Do i connect the resistor?

Hi Guys,

Just a quick one, when i am fitting a walbro fuel pump to a classic do i fit the resistor that was fitted as standard?

Have looked but no instructions mention it...any help would be great as i have it in bits on my drive at the moment...lol

Cheers

Well half way on the cage there is a resistor that connects to the postive and negative terminals on the pump.

The pump also has the normal postive and negative wires that go to the connector up the top.

Was just looking again at someones guide here in the how to section and it looks like the newages dont have the resistor fitted at all, you can just see the screw hole where it was fitted on earlier models.

Cheers

Hey sorry its for a classic just used the pic of the newage to show where the resistor would of been...lol sorry i am confusing.
I have a Classic version 4 STI.

I think if it was there when i started i should maybe connect it back on and wire it in to the new walbro?

Cheers

Just found this on a post;

".....the resisitor is there to drop the voltage of the pump on cruise from 12volts to 9v for emissions/ mileage considerations....................
with a modified car it is recomended that you forget this issue........."

So i am going to leave it off until i hear otherwise...lol...

Right in the end, I crimped on eyelets on the new filter wiring plug and connected it up to the old wiring with the nut and bolts off the old plug and put the resistor back in the circuit. My thinking on this is if I need to take it out of the circuit I just cut the heat wrap and unscrew it remove the connector and then heat shrink it all back up.
Did a bit more research and it appears 96-98 cars had the resistors. Must be a reason for it...so I guess the question is still open?
Would love to find out what the tuners do when they fit the pumps....

Any cheers for your help so far!

Thank you
Jimmy

It's not a resistor, it's an electrical noise suppressor (capacitor basically). Has no effect on the voltage to the pump.

I've always spliced them in when fitting pumps on classics.
