99' JDM Wagon, please advise
Hi all,
I have recently purchaced my 1st scooby . Its a Limited edition 1999 JDM WRX STIv6 Wagon done 60k bought from Car Planet in Warrington.
the applied model code is GF8G5ED. If anyone has any additional info on it, it would be grately appreciated as im not having much luck finding anything.
Can anyone recomend a scooby specalist near Chester, as i would like to have her fully checked over before my 6mth guarranty runs out?
I am then looking at fitting a full de-cat sys, induction kit, walbro fuel pump and then having it remapped.
Does this sound like a sensible start?
are there any other stock bits i should change for peace of mind??
Thanxs
P.S. Pic's will follow as soon as i get some

Induction = on these as it can and often does break the maf sensor (then kills your engine leaving you with a 2.5k+ bill for a rebuild).
A good DRY panel filter will suffice and you HAVE to use the highest octane rated fuel available, then go have a look at Phormula - Engine Knock, Detonation and Pre-Ignition Detection and Monitoring Systems and get a ks3/4 (one for sale in the for sale section at 250 quid ) to give you a bit more peace of mind

the end run of the STi6 wagon was 500 "WRX STi version VI Limited"........plaque with number, seats with SWRT swirl and STi logo, titanium gear ****, Kenwood hi-fi, pink stars badge.......and I think that was it

thanx Tony,
will be getting meself a knock sensor, and panel filter not induction kit,
on the exhaust front, i want a full de-cat that sounds nice/not deafening any ideas? ( and do i need to retain a cat/exhaust section for mot use?)
I have been running it on optimax, herd that the best for scoobys?
......oh and could still do with knowing where me best local specialist is in wrexham/chester area, anyone?

yeah all that seems right Shaun
not sure about the diff, what difference is there between a helical LSD and the normal diff? (i dont have DCCD, does this poss mean i could?)
Think it has got a close ratio box, also, maybe ??
have you found this listed somewhere??
are there any engine conponant differences? as most other wagons i have seen are either 240/280ps not 300. Would the extra power be from diff ecu map/higher boost pressure?
fanx again

This source says the STI 6 Wagon is 300ps...
Which Car is a WRX STi
...but all other sources seem to say 280ps!
Whatever, Subaru will have had to declare it at 280 (whether 280 or more!), because of Japan's 'gentlemen's agreement' arrangnement.
Only way of finding out is getting a dyno run on a set of 'truthful' rollers - ZEN's are as good as any.
If you combine the run with AFR set-up and boost gauge/KS3, then you'll kill 3 birds with one stone!

Haven't ever seen a late Limited wagon before. As above get some pics up! I've a '99 which is a V5. Brilliant cars and nicely understated... well probably in Blue/Gold.
They're generally 280-300bhp depending on which day of the week it is. I am jealous of your front diff, but I've got the best colour (cool grey)
Would recommend starting with an uprated rear ARB and droplinks all round. Some work to liven up the brakes is well worth it too. Then go for more power.

That source is wrong pretty much the same map as the v5/p1, and none of those ran anywhere near 300bhp, most ran 270bhp on uk fuel, same with the version 6's, just too many bs figures around

I'm certain it should be 280PS (276bhp)... as for all JDM saloons - and STi-only Wagons - from MY97 v.3 to MY00 v.6.

Nope.
As said, FROM MY97, all JDM saloons (whether STi or WRX) - and all STi-only wagons - were brought in line with 280PS.
Also from MY97, WRX-only wagons were 240PS (apart from MY98 which was 250PS for the manual - weird).
For pre-MY97 STi's:-
MY94 STi saloon: 250PS
MY95/96 STi saloon: 275PS
(no STi variants for MY93)
MY94 STi wagon: 250PS
MY96 STi wagon: 260PS
(no STi wagon for MY93 and 95).

Nah. From MY97-00 (Sep 96 to Aug 00) all WRX saloons got 280PS! (as well as all MY97-00 STis - whether saloon or wagon).
The 240PS was for WRX saloons in MY93/94; 260PS for WRX saloons in MY95/96

sti's had different engine internals (and gearboxes), for a start and why would you produce both models with the same power. That's just poor marketing

Although that link above in post #11 is wrong regarding the 300PS power outputs... it matches the info in Brian Long's 'Impreza' book and also in Chris Ree's 'You and Your Imprzea' book. 3 sources saying the same thing...
Just because the MY97 WRX's have 280PS, doesn't mean they are as good as the STi overall. It doesn't mean to say they have the STi internals/ECU map/suspension, etc. Don't forget that the regular 4-dr STi has lower gearing than the WRX too (and the R and RA STi's even lower!).
Also, it's hardly hard for Subaru to get just an extra 20PS over the previous MY96 260PS WRX either - upped boost and/or ign timing and there you go.
Don't forget that the MY97 range yieleded the all-new MASTER engine too.

For marketing reasons, Subaru would have probably wanted to maintain the STi output as bieng higher than the WRX!... but they reached the 280PS 'gentlemen's agreement' LIMIT, hence why they all ended up the same! (apart from WRX wagons).

The sti variant was a biut more bling and had sexier kit but it was also the additonal power increase that set them aside from thier cheaper cousins.
Yes it is easy to get an extra 20ps but that's not my point; as a car manufacturer why would you devalue your premium model by releasing lower spec cars with the same power...you wouldn't and Subaru didn't; hence the lower price\spec and power rating of wrx variants.
Is the MASTER engine you are referring to another name for the phase II engine?
#30
Yes wrx was rated at 280ps after 97. But there was an agreement that jap companies would not market anything with a power output above that. So even if a sti made more power it would still be rated at 280ps. Didn`t you find it strange that Impreza, evo, skyline, supra, all with various size engines and turbo`s all made the same power as standard.
