Default Help Please! thanks to some idiot!

Hi.

Some idiot tried to break into my car today. they were so dumb that they couldn't do it properly, all they've ended up doing is snapping the plastic off around the ignition and sticking a screw driver in the ignition barrel which has ruined it.

Since excess is ridiculous, I was wondering how much it will cost to replace the barrel, the plastic which goes around the bottom of the steering column and how hard is it to replace?

it's a 97 sti type r.

any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You should be able to pick up a whole lockset, so you don't have a different lock for the door and ignition, for a around 30-40 quid off this site or ebay.
Its not too much of a big job to change.

Sorry to hear that some tosser has had a go at your car, they need to get a life . the problem your going to have is , the car will have a immobiliser which matches the chip in your key (if yours has got one that is) may be yours is just controlled on the alarm fob. not sure with out seeing the key.

anyway if it has a immobilser your going to have to get a new ignition barrel built to your key from a main scoob agent or buy a new key with new barrel which in this case you will have to have the new key programed to your car.

the bottom cowling is easy , look on ebay or go to scoob agent , prob only a few quid

You'll be ok, a 97 import does not have coded keys.

Only the UK classics had the transponder immboliser.
But a UK barrel and key set should still fit.

Are you sure? Would have thought it would be closer to £450.
Anyway, Subaru go by the VIN, and as its an import, I doubt they would have it in stock.

Yup a UK one would fit, It will depend on weather you wan't to keep the "Ign Key Still In Ign" warning.

Just a thought... You say that they have put a screw driver into the barrel. Is this the only damage? because if the outer casing has not been damaged or levered off the column, then you could fit just the inner part (the lock) which has a part number of 57420AC010. This comes with 2 keys & a Subaru dealer would sell you one for £16.07.. You would also need 2 new sheer bolts to re-attach the barrel to the column (2x 83140GA000 £1.50 ea)

Your not wrong Mike.. A UK 97my Impreza Turbo Lock Set costs £44.92 from a dealer... Part No: 57400FA030

P.S. I have enquired & Subaru UK are currently out of stock of the above part number, but they do have stocks of the 5dr lock sets 57400FA030 (same Price) I beleive that the difference is in the boot lock... A dealer could order this and have it delivered to them the next day.

Does anyone know where I can order this part and get next day delivery? I'd prefer not to buy it form ebay but It might be my only hope.

Thanks.
