Default Cars hitting limp mode (i think!)

Had a mate sort some boost issues I had about 2 weeks ago. Hadn't driven the car since he gave it back until I decided to take it to work this morning...

Came onto boost once, felt good then about 1/2 mile down the road I noticed it started to idle funny. Now it wont rev very high and pops n bangs like mad and feels like its hitting fuel cut...

Would the ecu recognise that theres no clocks in the dash and throw itself into safety?? As thats the only thing I can think it would do it...

Car has never hit limp before...

Help please guys

Tucker

Ah good! so long as I know why its doing it. Got the clocks out as im waiting on new gauge to arrive. TBH i didn't think the ecu would recognise but then I clocked my indicators weren't working...

Thanks - you put my mind at ease

Ah but the speedo's mechanical (import)

I thought it might be the loom for the clocks that would the ecu would recognise isn't there...

Yes your speedo is mechanicaly driven, but the drive in speedo head itself then produces an electronic signal which is sent to the ECU via the wiring connected to the instrument pack.
